In the heart of October, GH Schools proudly stands in solidarity with women worldwide as we dedicate this month to celebrating womanhood. At GH Schools, October isn’t just a month; it’s a Ladies’ Month Celebration. In a community where our student body predominantly consists of vibrant and talented young ladies across various disciplines like GH Media School, GH Technology School, GH Cosmetology School, GH Fashion School, and GH Catering School, we find it essential to prioritize their health and wellness.
Amidst the festivities, GH Schools has taken a significant stride by focusing on breast cancer awareness. This initiative is particularly crucial as breast cancer continues to rise, necessitating informed self-care and preventive measures.

To impart knowledge and foster health consciousness, we collaborated with medical professionals from renowned institutions such as NK-SALEM MEDICAL CENTRE and the Oncology Department of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. NK-SALEM MEDICAL CENTRE conducted the seminar providing insights on preventive measures while the experts from Korl-Bu did the breast screenings
Mr. Clifford Ladzekpo, also known as, Professor Cliff who is the Deputy Rector and Academic Director, and a Public Health expert, shared valuable insights during the awareness program. Prof. Cliff emphasized that breast cancer isn’t confined to affecting only women; men, too, stand at risk. His call to action was clear — men must be educated to play an active role in supporting their female partners, friends and relatives by identifying signs and symptoms and being proactive in the fight against breast cancer.
Prof. Cliff’s comments highlighted the need for inclusivity in discussions surrounding breast cancer. Men, as well, should be aware and educated, as they can be instrumental in aiding their partners in the battle against this formidable adversary.
Hilda Yayra Kuntu Blankson, Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, stressed the importance of regular self-examinations. She advocated for personal breast screenings every month, urging women not to wait for the annual event but to make self-examination a routine part of their health regimen. This, she said can be done every month, two or three days right after your menstrual cycle.
The success of the program was evident in the enthusiastic participation of our students. Their feedback highlighted the impact of the seminar on their understanding of breast cancer and the significance of taking proactive measures for their health.
As we concluded the Breast Cancer Awareness Program, a powerful drama unfolded under the guidance of Madam Selassie Bonuedie, Deputy Head of the Department for Media Arts. The drama resonated with the importance of early detection, self-awareness, and the strength that comes from unity in the face of health challenges.
At GH Schools, we believe in empowering our students beyond the realms of academia, and this breast cancer awareness program is a testament to our commitment to their holistic well-being. As we move forward, let us continue to stand together, creating a community that prioritizes health, education, and empowerment for all.
